April is upon us! The birds have returned, the Northern Hemisphere has warmed up, the plant life is blooming, and the Band of Bloggers are gearing up for another monthly post. Feel free to join us in this conversation by commenting below!
What product have you tried that has surprised you with its performance? It can be anything that comes to mind.
As my lack of posts may already indicate, I'm at a rather stagnant lull in my scented wax enthusiasm. Very rarely do I read the posts in vendor wax groups and I've been out of all the general wax groups for a couple of years. I think this tends to happen from time to time and I've seen several wax fans ebb and flow in both participation and general enthusiasm in melting wax.
I may not be up on my wax knowledge and I no longer have an insatiable urge to purchase as much product as possible, but I still get immense enjoyment out of melting my own, still well stocked selection of what I believe to be the best wax out there. And I say this because as each month goes by that I'm not ordering much wax, my collection is getting older and older but the performance is still top notch.
That's what has surprised me the most. Some of my wax is getting up in the two year old mark, wax that I would not even think of giving away, and they are still perfectly prime.
Which wax, specifically, am I referring to? Well, probably no surprise but the big names in indie wax are giving me a shelf life way beyond expectation : Sniff My Tarts, Rosegirls, Beezy-Tarts and Lasting Scent Candles. The best, though, is Daphne's Divine, which is almost like fine wine or stinky cheese - it's getting better with age. I bought drawers full when Daphne's had their end of business blow out and stashed them away until recently. I know at some point there was talk of Daphne's getting back into the game but that was right around the time I stopped following wax news, so I have no idea.
Unrelated to wax, I'm surprised by the performance of micellar water. I wanted to hate it. I really want to know how to properly pronounce it. I didn't think it would work and that it was just gimmicky and overhyped. I love it. It removes the last traces of makeup I thought was already removed. I'm currently using Lancome's version.
Clinique's high impact mascara. Where has this been all my life. I get compliments on my lashes when I use this and I'm not the kind of gal that fetches a ton of eye lash compliments. Surprisingly, it's moderately priced and not that much more than drugstore mascara.
Ked's ultra low cut sneaker socks. Sneakers or tennis shoes? I'm embarrassed to say I say sneakers most of the time. This made my list because it's surprising that the performance of socks would ever stand out but let me tell you, there have been more than a few occasions where I have rummaged desperately through my sock drawer trying to find these socks. I love the gripping silicon heel so much I can't stand it.
SNS powder dipped nails. I'm on my third application and love that they are just as - or even better in performance then gel nails but much healthier for your nails. No more baking the gel coating in UV light.
I think that's it for now. I forgot how much fun it is to talk about things I love! I can't wait to read what my bloggy friends have to say. I'm sure I'll be looking up quite a few of their surprise hits.
Have a great week!

LOVE! Seeing this post and your hits makes me nostalgic. I know exactly what you mean about silicon heels on no shows. I got a couple pair of Sperry no-shows at TJ Maxx and they are incredible!! I will have to check out this face water you speak of. Lancome's eye make up remover is my current go-to. Good to see you! Miss you!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely hate seeing vendors or customers claim that bad performance in wax must be due to age! I have never experienced that from vendors that I know to perform well except in circumstances where the was was not stored properly. It's awesome that your "ass wax" is still performing so wonderfully! :D
ReplyDeleteI need to look into those powder dipped nails. When they first popped up I immediately ignored them, thinking it's some silly gimmicky product that only half works. I'm seeing more and more great reviews on them so maaaaaybe my first impression was wrong.
You should find your way back to blogging. I mean, geez, even a post about your dirty face and smelly feet is a much welcome sight! lol
ReplyDeleteI've been curious about micellar water too. I don't wear makeup so I don't need it for that but I've heard it can be a regular cleanser too. So do you just use this? Or do you wash your face and this is used after?
I guess I need to shove my wimpy RG aside for a year or so and revisit it. I *thought* I remembered my much older RG stuff being nice and strong. This post helps confirm it in my head now.

@Julie - Sperry no show? I'm gonna have to check them out. I just recently went to TJ Maxx and couldn't believe all the bath and body finds there. Miss you!
ReplyDelete@Liz - Powder dip nails are legit! I think they last a week or two longer than gels as well. Hooray for great smelling ass wax!!
@Deb - LOLOL. I'll get back into blogging just to read your comments! The micellar water works well as a regular cleanser, I use it alone when I'm feeling lazy and I feel like it does a pretty good job. Normally I use it after I wash my face because the combo of cleanser + micellar water seems a bit more thorough and clean but I definitely feel adequately clean with just the m water.
