Where do I start?
First, Hello! How are you? I hope you are doing well and thank you for being here, reading this update.
Not only am I ready for summer to be over (this heat!) but I'm kind of ready for 2015 to be over. It's been a rough year for so many of us, whether it be from heartache or job stress or health issues. There have been many hours of holding each other up in friendship and many hours of quiet suffering.
Some days I feel like the momentum of life is callous to our pain, insistent on moving forward at a pace we are often unprepared. But then there are other days where the gift of focusing on something outside of myself feels like a soothing trance of perfect rhythm.
I wouldn't say that the rough patches this year is entirely to blame for why I have been more and more absent from this sweet space of my blog. I've been contemplating a lot of changes, changes in theme and content and focus.
My original goal for Fragrance Obsessed was to blog consistently for one year. You might have noticed that I have a tendency to be the most excited person about a thing for roughly two weeks, real estate license dream - I'm looking at you.Sometimes Often, I have lofty goals with poor execution and follow through. It's one of my flaws that I consistently work on, for about two weeks at a time.
Blogging about scented wax has almost come to an end for me. I've exceeded my desire to blog for a year by an additional year, and even though I wasn't able to grow my readership to what I wanted, I have loved talking about and being a part of the wax community. I know it's time to move on because the words don't come as easily and my pictures are starting to all look the same.
I find that the oil that runs product driven blogs is hauls. Lots of hauls. Second is product reviews. The larger the hauls, the greater the response. Also, the most critical and honest reviews when a product is not liked, brings in the best stats.
Purchasing scented wax gets expensive quickly. I was getting a little too caught up in buying for the sake of having something to blog. It was starting to become a problem.
Fortunately, I haven't come across too many vendors that I've felt compelled to express dissatisfaction. I'm proud though, that you can find in past posts, my honest and often hard to say opinions when I have not liked a product or other aspects of a vendor's business. There's a difference in sugar coating a consistently poor performing product by saying 'these didn't work for me but I'm sure everything else is great' versus 'these have all sucked and I'm pretty sure you shouldn't waste your money'. Don't we all want to see the latter sometimes? Not for drama but as an affirmation that not everything a blogger buys or is given is impossibly liked.
This is all to say that a change is coming. I still want to blog but not for Fragrance Obsessed. I know many of you are here because of my presence in the Facebook wax groups when I first started. That was over two years ago and some of you are still reading -- I wish I could show you how grateful I am without crying big, mushy tears. According to my stat counter, most of you have googled something wax related and continue to return -- more sloppy tears for you.
Another statistic that I pull from that stat counter is what you, my present readers, want to read. Wax, wax and more wax. If (when!) I post my most recent custom Rosegirls haul, that post will more than quadruple the amount of hits that say, this post will get. I'm okay with that. You guys are mostly here for the wax hauls/reviews and I know I will loose a significant amount of readers when I switch to the new blog. Knowing that doesn't make me less grateful for Fragrance Obsessed in any way.
While I'm transitioning over to a new blog, I have more than enough hauls backlogged to keep me busy here for a couple of months. Even with the new blog, I plan on having a very small section dedicated to scented wax. Because, let's face it, I will probably always love making my home smell delicious.
Enough of all that! Let's talk about life. Like, I could be moving to the East Coast part time. I hated the ending of this season's True Detective. Sugaring - I'm addicted. Finally tried the cotton candy grapes - a bit sweet but interesting. I'm running out of quality TV to watch, I need something to obsess over.
I hope you are having a great week!

Well hello, stranger. Not that you're struggling with blogging or anything already but....your blog header still says 'Hello June.' Yes, leave it to me to point these things out. :P
ReplyDeleteAre you starting a whole new blog? Or just switching things up here on this one?
I don't know of any quality TV for you to watch. The only thing I'm watching right now is Suits, and the season ends tonight. My other shows are all on break.
~Deb
Sunnee! This has been quite the year, hasn't it? :P Can't wait to see in which direction you take the new blog. Whether it's wax or whatever, you bring so much grace and consideration to your subject matter, it's sure to be joy to read :)
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen Rectify? I don't have Sundance Channel so just caught up to the end of S2 on Netflix. Fascinating and moody. It has a bit in common with Bloodline (also Netflix), but I haven't finished that yet, so not sure what I think of it overall. Other than those, I've stalled on my tv watching lately.
Girl you could do a blog on underwater basket weaving while wearing a dinosaur costume and I would follow it still! You ROCK! Although I admit I will miss seeing the abundance of wax pictures-yours are some of the very best I've EVER seen.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you, Sunnee! I am glad that you are pursuing your interests, there's no point writing about something you are not passionate about or isn't making you happy. Whatever you do, I will be right behind you! Can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve. <3 :)
ReplyDeleteI know we have all batted this ball around but it still makes me ready that FO is coming to a close. I know whatever you choose to write about next will be read and loved by tons. Including me. That first photo. It's art.
ReplyDelete*tear up, not ready
Delete@Deb - LOL! I love that you noticed that --rightfully so. Must get on it for ...September (already!). I think I'm going with a completely new blog with a custom url. :)
ReplyDelete@Kate - Hello! Thank you, I got a bit teary reading your kind words. <3
I haven't seen Rectify but I'm excited to start watching it! Tonight we started Ray Donovan and so far, so good. I, too, have been enjoying Bloodline! Hope you're doing well!
@Liz - You are the sweetest, thank you! I know this year has been a tough one for you as well my friend. Keeping you in my thoughts <3
@Gil - Your words are everything Gil! Thank you for your support and friendship <3
@Julie - Thank you Julie --for always being so supportive and kind. You are so cherished and loved <3
Hi Sunnee, I'm looking forward to your new blog as well, I can't say it better than Kate already did.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a DVD Netflix subscription, I binge watched Northern Exposure last year, I like the early seasons the most. It is slower paced than TV is now but deeper and the scenery is amazing.
We love you, Sunnee, and will support whatever you choose to do with this blog, be it leaving it completely or just posting somewhere else about something else. We want you to be happy and have fun with blogging and in life, not tired of writing about wax or discouraged or unhappy in life! We will always be here for you.
ReplyDeleteIf you want a new TV show, Netflix just came out with Narcos, it's supposed to be pretty good. I have also heard good things about Bloodline. I have been watching The IT Crowd, and older(ish) British comedy show that I can't get enough of, it's really funny. Also, still powering through "Gilmore Girls" again.
You're one of my biggest fans (not to sound braggadocio), and I will always be on of yours, whatever you do and wherever you decide to go! <3 <3 <3
Hi Sunnee, I definitely get where you are coming from. My own blog has also been doing a slow wind-down now that I am not buying as much and am just trying to melt through my collection. I have been wondering what I am going to do with it because I still want to connect with you ladies, these friendships I have found in the wax world have been one of the coolest thing of this whole experience.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to your new blog! I can't wait to see the direction you will be going in!
@Jean - Thank you so much. I always smile when I see your name. On your recommendation, I started Narcos and LOVE it. Thank you! I never watched Northern Exposure when it was in syndication but it sounds like the perfect show for my current state of elevated anxiety.
ReplyDelete@Lolo - You, my dear. Where do I start. Thank you for being such a caring and loving friend. I so admire you, your talent and your strength. I look up to you in so many ways and will always, always cherish all the support for, not only this blog, but my well being. No one does goodness of spirit better than you. <3
@Michelle - I'm so with you in regards to the friendships. It would be so much easier to walk away if it weren't for the connections we've made here. I have gained so much from reading your words and admiring your photos. I'm going to keep you as a forever pen pal and friend. <3
Hey Sunnee! I must admit my heart took a little downward flip when I read about you not possibly wax blogging anymore but to be honest, I will follow whatever turn you decide to pursue. I love that you let us into your life, interests and of course your beautiful photography ;) Good luck with your future endeavors. I'm excited to see what you will be doing! ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteI"m so behind in reading everyone's blogs -- but reading this, I can totally relate. Whatever you do next with your internet presence and whatever you write about, I'll be there! <3
