I was strolling through Costco during my bi-weekly visit when a new product caught the corner of my eye. The bulk bath and beauty section is not usually a dangerous impulse buy section for me because there are not too many products that I love enough to purchase in mass quantities. I'm much too fickle to commit to enormous bottles of lotion or ten tubes of lipstick that include eight shades I would never wear.
Jenna Hipp's nail polish remover pads did cause me to pause and go hands on. This isn't a new concept, I've used them in the past with poor to mediocre results. I did find the pads to work better than the awkward container of polish remover that you stuck your finger in and swooshed.
What I read on the packaging grabbed my attention:
- no parabens
- no petrochemicals
- no mineral oil
- no phthalates
- no synthetic fragrance
- no acetone
- no animal testing
I also read that it only took one pad to thoroughly remove polish from all ten digits. Let's see about that...
My First Impressions:
The pads are ultra thin and about the size of a quarter. As soon as I placed the first pad on my finger, I noticed the oily consistency. The pads were fully saturated without dripping or causing a mess.
It takes quite a bit of rubbing to remove polish and my first attempt proved that three pads were necessary for me to feel my winter dark polish was adequately removed.
What I Liked:
All of the bullet points above were a huge draw for me. Although odd at first, the oily consistency proved to be very moisturizing. When I was done removing my polish, I rubbed my hands together happily as I felt the moisturizing oil get quickly absorbed.
There is very little scent and it's not harsh in the least.
What I Didn't Like:
I mentioned it above already but it really does take quite a bit of elbow grease to rub off the polish completely.
I also found that the skin around my nail bed became colored as I was trying to remove the polish. It took a little extra work (and an extra pad) to remove the polish from my skin.
I still had to use a minimal, quick swipe of my acetone remover to prep my nails for a new coat of polish. This is a tip I picked up from getting my nails done in the salon. It seems every manicurist does this after slathering on the lotion.
My Final Thoughts:
I'm impressed and I easily recommend it. I paid $10.99 for two jars of 55 pads per jar and a handful of individual travel wipes.
It took a little more time to remove the polish from my fingers but the moisturizing benefit outweighed the extra work.
I Need Your Help:
I love sharing new products and I need a guest reviewer. If you're interested in trying a jar, please comment or send me a message. First response gets it. In exchange, I'm going to send a little questionnaire with a couple of questions so I can compare our thoughts and post a recap at the end of the month.
If you're a Costco member, you can purchase Jenna Hipp's polish remover in a warehouse near you or online HERE.

I don't go to Costco (don't even think there is one near me), and I'm not any kind of nail product expert so I'm not volunteering here, but I think it's a brilliant idea to do this guest reviewer thing! Especially with questions to answer, so you're actually comparing thoughts.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see if anyone gets this 'job.' =)

I would love to try them, if someone hasn't already claimed it. My hands get so dry, so I would love to try them and see if the moisturizing quality outweighs the elbow grease for me. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteExciting! I love this idea of a guest reviewer!!! The Josie Maran nail remover pads are oily like that too. It throws me off. Looking forward to the follow up post!
ReplyDelete@Deb - I hope the comparison of opinions on a product translates well for a blog topic! Considering an ongoing theme with it this year ...maybe?
ReplyDelete@futurowoman - you got it! I'll email you for your address. Thanks for volunteering :)
@Julie - ohh I bet the Josie Maran remover pads are decadent --because anything Josie Maran is total lush in my mind - I love it!
I'm so excited -- thank you! And I agree about Josie Maran products. Right now, I'm absolutely in love with this: http://www.sephora.com/argan-love-your-lips-hydrating-lipstick-P379102?skuId=1506773
ReplyDeleteIt's fantastic!
@futurowoman - I've been eyeing that JM lipstick too! The happy honey shade is calling my name --loudly!
ReplyDeleteI like the pads a lot, and lasted me a very long time. I don't recall when I got them but I am guessing that it was about the time you wrote this blog. So they lasted me almost a year? But alas I am out, and my costco no longer has them, nor did I find them at costco online. Any idea where I can buy them other than amazon (as it looks like someone just bought a bunch at costco and have doubled the price for resale)
