I reconsidered after taking into account my failing efforts to keep the information updated throughout the year. Instead, I thought I would compile a much more personal list. A list that would include my preferred vendors based on my experiences and categorized by difficulty in ordering.
First, I think it's important to note that I have received very little free wax outside of giveaways and contests. The one exception is Sniff My Tarts who sent me a a handful of chunks because I commented on a customers post inquiring about the spiciness of an eggnog blend. The owner graciously sent me and another group member several chunks of the blend to try. That's it.
I believe wholeheartedly that my opinions are unbiased and true. The entire point of this blog is to provide information to those new to scented wax, indie wax specifically. It was also important to me to try to connect with anyone reading and be genuine and kind.
Sometimes stating my opinion can seem genuine, yes, but not always kind. Please know that I have not one shred of maliciousness in my intent. I'm not trying to hurt anyones business by stating my lack of success with their company. I do, however, want to share all of my experiences - good and bad.
Although I believe I have a solid grasp on the pulse of the ins and outs of the wax world, I am no more an expert than anyone else who has been observing and/or participating. The tone of this list is not about being a 'know it all'.
Several things determine how much I like or dislike a vendor. The most important is how well the wax performs in my house. Then there's the scent list, customer service, TAT, ease of ordering and in rare cases, reputation to be taken into consideration. Sometimes it's hard to explain why a certain vendor excites me so much, just like it's not easy to pinpoint why some very popular vendors do nothing for me.
The first list is the most important. My overall favorite vendors that range from easy to order from to difficult. The list is in alphabetical order because I have a difficult time choosing the ranking among my top five. Mostly because it changes all the time.

UNDECIDED = I'm not sure where on the above lists to place the following vendors.
Long Cane Primitives (easy to order) - I've had mixed luck with my first large order. I plan on ordering again from her RTS stock.
Makes Scents (moderately difficult to order) - first order started out strong then had several misses. Will order again to re-evaluate.
Tiffany Candles (easy to order) - I was not impressed with the loaves I ordered earlier this year. Very poor performance but I am incredibly anxious to try her new wax. I've heard phenomenal things and will be placing an order soon.
Super Tarts (difficult to order) - I've had pretty great performance but I don't like the ordering process at all. I've also read many, many complaints in non vendor groups about delays in shipping, excuses and lack of communication. My orders arrived when expected (long TAT).
Vintage Chic Scent (moderately difficult to order) - I can't get VCS to work well in my house and it's such a bummer because I love her blends and customer service. My first order did not perform at all and I'm working through a more recent order. Gifted VCS has been all over the place too. Definitely need to order again, I don't want to write this vendor off.

It takes quite a bit for me to boycott a vendor all together. Even if I hear a few negative things here or there, I will still give most vendors a shot. The exception to the rule is when their reputation can not be ignored. This isn't to say they don't have regular and happy customers. Just I have no desire to place an order based on what I've read. The two vendors that fall in this category are: Happy Hippy Scents and Victoria's Designer Creations
I have not tried any wax from their companies. This is solely based on the alarming amount of negative feedback I've read from multiple sources.

I'm sure there will be changes to these lists as I continue to purchase and melt vendor wax. My top five today were not my top five a year ago.
If you're a seasoned melter, these lists are most likely mere entertainment. If you're new to scented wax, use the above as a piece of information to add to your research but certainly don't base your purchasing decisions solely on what you've read here. With the exception of the last two, I encourage you to try any vendor that excites you or has you curious.
Now it's your turn. I would love to know your current top five. This is a question that is asked often in the wax groups and I love reading the answers. Because it's always subject to change makes it all the more fun!
* I will be adding hyperlinks to all the vendor's webpages in the next few days *

Front Porch would probably be my current favorite indie wax source. I do like Rosegirls but you know me, I hate long TATs, and going to the store is not always successful shopping because you never know what's in stock. I used to absolutely love Sweet Fixations but she's fallen into the long TAT and lack of communication category.
ReplyDeleteSugar & Spice is still one I need to place an order from. Whenever I go there though, nothing really catches my eye. Yet I see everyone else getting all these amazing scents. So that's a bit frustrating to me.
~Deb
@Deb - I thought about you as I was thinking about were to put Sweet Fixations.
ReplyDeleteSugar & Spice is great for blenders/custom orders. I never seem to find too much in her RTS section when I snoop around.
I guess that's why I'm not finding things, because I'm not a blender. I'll send hubby over to that site. LOL
ReplyDelete~Deb
My top five would be Rosegirls, Vintage Chic Scents, Can-Do Candles, CFTKR and Sniff My Tarts :) I also like The Bathing Garden and Long Cane Primitives.
ReplyDeleteMy top five are: rosegirls, Candles From the Keeping Room, enchanted, sniff my tarts, and super tarts. No particular order.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post! I loved reading this.
ReplyDeleteI know RG and FP and SMT are top three but I must mull over the rest. :-)
Love this post Sunnee!
ReplyDeleteMy top 5 vendors right now are: Front Porch, VCS, Tiffany Candles, TDC, and Sugar and Spice. This reflects a notable change from who my top vendors used to be. What they all have in common is that they are all RTS vendors (or have some RTS product available with custom ordering options.) Honorable mention to CFTKR, because though it is next to impossible for me to catch an opening these days, I still believe she is one of the best RTS vendors out there for me as far as scent selection, performance and customer service goes. UTC is probably another honorable mention - excellent wax, great customer service, and quick RTS shipping. Her scent selection just doesn't appeal to me quite as much as the others.
It's hard for me to put into words how I feel about wax as a whole right now, but at this point it feels strictly utilitarian. When I feel like I want to smell something in my home, I no longer have the patience to wait 6 months for it. Granted, vendors like RG and SMT will always have a special place in my heart (especially RG, as I love Jenny to death) but I just don't see myself ordering long TAT wax much anymore. I have a custom order out with SMT and a sampler from RG out and then...I just am not sure after that.
I think it also has to do with the fact that at this point, I really just want scents that guests in my home will enjoy. Though in the wax world bakery scents are king, I have noticed that people "in real life" just don't seem to enjoy strawberry blackberry frosted cookie zucchini bread scents as much as we wax lovers do. So, I suppose I am more than satisfied with simpler scents in wax than I ever have been before. The urge to custom blend just isn't there for me much anymore.
I agree with you completely about Super Tarts. While Brandy seems like a sweet girl, I haven't experienced the best customer service and I always wonder why she opens when she has 2-3 previous restocks of samplers, customs, etc. that haven't even shipped yet. Also, her scent blends rarely appeal to me. I don't believe I will be a repeat customer.
I am curious why Rainbow Melts and Lasting Scent Candles are so low on your list, and wonder if your reasons are the same as mine.
While I used to absolutely love LSC, it's impossible to order these days and her scents just don't hold the same appeal for me anymore. I did order this last time to stock up on a few faves (Lemon Ginger Snaps is the love of my life) but I think it may have been my last time ordering.
Also, Rainbow Melts is probably some of my favorite wax out there performance-wise, I just can't get past the fact that I have been sitting on a custom order list for about a year now, with only 10 of those names on the list completed in that amount of time. It hard to let that be a factor for me, as I know the owner has a full time job outside of wax but again, I just have little patience for waiting for vendors at this point.
LONGEST POST RESPONSE EVER! Lol! Hope you had a great weekend Sunnee <3
What a fantastic post. I love reading other peoples opinion on who their favorite vender is. My top five would be the following
ReplyDeleteGlitterati - Her wax throws like a beast in my light bulb warmer. Once chunk lasts a lifetime for me since I use such a small amount. I really don't mind waiting on her custom list. I like being about to order whatever I want and not have to rush to try and add things to my cart.
Rosegirls- I love her blends and I get a great throw. I'm not a huge fan of the 6 month TAT time, but to get my favorite blends I will wait.
Candles by Victoria - I love that I can order from her anytime that I want and that she always has a 10% off code. She as a couple of my favorite scents of all time.
Candles from the Keeping Room - She would be my #1 vendor if she had a better ordering system. I don't like having to stalk a website.
Supertarts - Her wax has a super strong scent throw in my house. She has me loving blends that I never thought I would enjoy. I don't mind waiting for her wax. I also really enjoy that she has unique blends and not just the same FO everyone else has.
Here's my top vendors in no particular order:
ReplyDelete1.Front Porch - easy to order, scents perform well (sometimes a little too strong. I'm talking about you Peppermint blends!) and you can't beat free shipping.
2. Vintage Chic Scents - I love love her blends. I've had good luck with the scent throw but then again, they've been curing for at least 3 months or so. Not because I feel they need to but because I have so much wax that by the time I get around to choosing one they've already been sitting around for a while! Her TAT is quick because her stock is RTS. The only downside but a big one is the ordering process. It's a madhouse when she opens. I never get everything on my wishlist because I just don't have time to stalk her website. I've got 2 kids for crying out loud!
3. The Bathing Garden - I like that she emails a list of her current scents and gives you plenty of time to order. The TAT is a little long but her wax doesn't disappoint.
4. Candles By Victoria - Easy to order, hundreds of scents to choose from and she has sales a couple times a year. However, I've had better luck with her tarts than with her candles. While her candles are beautiful and creative, the wicks give off so much soot and poor scent throw.
4. Rosegirls - I agree with you. Difficult to order but when you do get hold of their products, they do not disappoint!
I love your list! I've been a lurker for a while and I just want to say that I enjoy reading your blog. I've been meaning to comment for so long ;)
@Evamarie - Hey! Thanks for sharing your list. I immediately wondered what your favorite blends are from those vendors. Happy Thanksgiving! <3
ReplyDelete@Fairy Gawdmutha - Hello! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your list. Have a wonderful holiday :)
@Julie - Thank you my sweets <3 I'm curious about your next two!
@Jacqui -I simply adore you. And reading your comment makes me miss you as a blogger so much more than ever, which makes me even more grateful that we have formed a friendship that extends beyond wax and blogging. <3
I seriously was just thinking the other day how it's becoming less enticing to fill my home with really heavy bakery scents. When I first started melting, I was after trying to recreate true baking scents like chocolate chip cookies or banana bread but I found those didn't translate into wax very well for me. Although I'm not ready to give up my serendipities and zucchini breads, I know exactly how you feel.
Super Tarts is a tricky one. Her wax usually throws well for me but her ordering process has me very hesitant to repurchase.
LSC frustrated me to no end the last couple of restocks. The emails sent out with three different tiers for ordering, the limited scents and the limits per scent - totally turned me off from them. To top it off, the last order didn't melt as great as my previous orders did. :(
Happy Thanksgiving to you Jacqui <3
@JackieO - I absolutely love reading everyone's favorite vendors too. I never tire of it. I love your list and how beautifully you explained your favorite vendors. Next time I order from CBV, I'm gonna PM you for some scent recommendations :)
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving <3
@NiteNrs - Hi!! Thank you so much for commenting. I am a total lurker too so I completely understand :)
Great list! I'm determined to get VCS to work in this house. I remember when she first opened I was concerned that she didn't have a good selection of blends --did she ever turn that around --her blends are outstanding!
I love catching CBV on a sale --I feel like I hit the jackpot and then I feel like I don't have enough time in my life to go through all the scents she offers.
I haven't ordered from TBG in some time but I also like how she has her order system set up and I couldn't be happier for her success.
Thank you again for your kind words. Your comment made my night :) Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm going to take you up on that, Sunnee! Favorite scents from my top five:
ReplyDeleteRosegirls: where to start! I have never gotten one bad blend from them, only ones I know someone else would enjoy more. Some favorites off the top of my head are streuselkuchen and all its blends, Yoshi's island of yummy, posh pristine peach (this one got me into peach blends!) and wildberry blends.
Sniff My Tarts: only have gotten to try this vendor through destashes but I have loved everything I've melted. Some favorite blends I came up with for my custom order are coconut cream pie / peppermint / sticky marshmallow and pumpkin ice cream / willow's cuppy cake / cream cheese frosting.
Vintage Chic Scents has come so so far since the beginning and I love everything about it. Some favorites are Dr Zhivago, Bates Motel, The Great Pumpkin, Jackie O and Central Park Snowglobe.
I haven't gotten to place an order myself with CFTKR but I have a very generous friend who has sent me some bags - love Biolage Matrix, Sugar Cookie Zucchini, Zucchini Fluff and Pizzelle! Aiming to grab some Fresh picked strawberry as its so buzzed about.
And Can-Do, love of my life, I'm all about her mint blends - farmhouse spearmint, Lessie's coco mint frost (this is my "end of the world and can only melt one thing forever" scent), Debbie's peppermint twist, snow cream, and herbal essence (I could have this in truckloads).
What are some of your favorites?
