Target Beauty Box - April 2016

Hello sunshine, indeed!

You're here, you're reading this - a huge, heartfelt virtual hug of appreciation is headed your way.

Life stuff, later (perhaps). Today is all about my rekindled obsession with beauty boxes.

Does the Target beauty box count? I'm not sure.

For one, it's incredibly budget friendly but might I add that it would be a great introduction to beauty boxes for the first timer with a little more reign on the purse strings. I paid $7 and that includes shipping.

With the reasonable price tag comes a lack of high end products as can be scored from some other, more expensive boxes. A reasonable expectation, wouldn't you agree?

That's not to say, though, that there aren't desirable drug store brands that make their way into these boxes. I believe this is my third box in the span of a year and a half and I've really enjoyed the offerings in each box.

In this month's box, the only true full sized product is the Covergirl colorlicious lipstick that has a current price on Target of $5.99. I've actually purchased the Hawaiian tropic sunblock in the exact size from the travel aisle for about two bucks or so.

At the very least, you're getting your money's worth in this box. That is - if you use it.

Here are the other samples provided, almost all of them are larger than the normal sample size. Several use, travel portions would describe them well.

  • 7 wipes of Simple cleansing facial wipes
  • 1oz Marlowe body butter
  • 2oz Hawaiian Tropic sport sunscreen
  • .085oz CeraVe healing ointment
  • 1oz Pantene airspray
  • 1 Laneige soothing gel mask

This is the covergirl lipstick I mentioned earlier. Unfortunately this color, on my skintone, would scare small children. Since I've already swatched it on my wrist and it's no longer fit for giving away, I'll have to blend this with another not quite for me color, like the dark reddish wine lipstick I bought on a whim.
I enjoyed opening this box and I know I'm going to use everything in it, especially in my travel bag. I'm really looking forward to that gel mask because I've become enraptured by facial masks these past few months.

On the way to me is the Walmart beauty box which I saw someone haul on my Instagram feed.

I'll let you know which one I like better. It's funny how there are things we go to Target for and there are things we go to Walmart for. All of us, right?

Maybe beauty boxes will be equally desirable at both stores.

although receiving free loot from Target is the stuff my dreams are made of, this is not a sponsored post. my Amex provided me with this box.

*edited to add*

Since writing this post the other day, I've used a few of the products mentioned :

The Laniege soothing mask - I placed this mask on my face as we watched the third episode of American Odyssey (so good, highly recommend if you like military/spy/terrorist thrillers like The Americans or Homeland). The problem with most masks, for me, is that they leave a very tacky residue on your skin. This one included, which is why I wouldn't purchase it. I did find it moderately hydrating and I woke up with supple, soft skin. The coolest part was after I removed it from my face, the mask felt cold and squishy like a dead jellyfish.

Marlowe body butter - the consistency is more like a lotion, maybe just a smidgen thicker. I prefer this over thick body butters so it wasn't the consistency that I didn't like. It was more the scent which was lightly aquatic and a little old lady smelling. There was a little bit of tackiness after application but it quickly absorbed into my skin.

  1. I had received several of the Walmart beauty boxes but canceled my subscription when it became more of a box of coupons. Samples were getting teeny tiny and repeating, and then there was just all those coupons and info cards. But then, wouldn't you know, I saw the next box (after I'd canceled) and that sucker was loaded with products. Go figure.

I miss subscription boxes. I just can't find one that I really use all....or at least most....of the products in.

  2. @Deb - I remember your Walmart box subscription but I didn't know you canceled it! Bummer that they're coming back with the larger samples after you told them to hit the road. It's the latest boxes that I've seen around the internet that had me thinking they were ALL like that ...hmmmm.

  3. The Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen stands out to me. I love the scent of that. And Australian Gold. I am with you on the nudes and light lippie shades. Dead lady walking.
