Gah. I went flower shopping for my planters last weekend and picked up these geraniums. I swear they're electric. If they were any brighter they would hurt my eyes.
The only thing I really want to talk about lately is Orange is the New Black. Seriously, I'm always 3 years late to everything cool. Multiple people have begged me to watch this since season one. I remember thinking I wasn't interested in a show about a bunch of women in prison. How wrong was I! The hubs and I are four episodes into the first season and we are hardcore hooked. It's a bit saucy, yes, but terribly funny.
Lately, I've been stuffing my face with watermelon. I can not get enough. I try not to sprinkle my chunks with salt but it's so hard to resist. Watermelon + Salt, all summer long. Not a lot of salt, just a light sprinkle.
I made quesadillas in my cast iron skillet for the first time last week. Actually, cast iron skillet aside, it was my first time making quesadillas ever. I thought my husband was going to propose to me again. HOLY melted cheese it was so good. The tortillas were deliciously buttery and crispy, the cheese was ample, the chicken moist (although next time I will shred the chicken instead of cubing it --easier to flip I think) and the sauteed onion and bell pepper allowed me to think it was healthy-ish. Quesadillas for life.
I now have 15 wax warmers in action throughout my house. I can no longer reason that this is normal. Is this normal? This could be normal, right?
The Scentsy warmer and two tealight warmers downstairs are used when the other warmers are resting as well as the Scentsy warmer and plug in upstairs.
When I get up in the morning I load up and turn on six warmers downstairs and three upstairs.
I don't pick out the scents ahead of time and sometimes going to my "to melt" basket is like opening the refrigerator at 3am aimlessly staring and hoping that something will pop out and scream EAT THIS. Or trying to find something interesting to watch while flipping through a selection of 700 channels on satellite TV.
I sit on the edge of my seat curious about your wax routine. I want to know all about it. How many warmers? Do you plan your scents the night before? Do you purposely coordinate your scents? Tell me everything.

Salt on watermelon...haven't heard of that, but I used to eat salt on apples. And we used to eat raw potatoes with salt.
ReplyDeleteI own seven warmers but I only use one or two at a time. Even if I do use two, it's the same scent in both. I don't understand who people can have different scents in every room. Don't the scents drift and mix? This is where I suspect my idea of 'strong' and others' idea of 'strong' is very different. My 'strong' goes through multiple rooms.
I don't pick my scents the night before. Sometimes I'll just do a random grab into the box. Sometimes I'll have one of the menfolk pick (which is usually a random grab). Sometimes I'll actually be in a mood for something like 'Today is a good lemon day,' or 'Today calls for warm bakery.'

I loved the first season of OITNB but haven't yet gotten around to watching the others. It's one of those shows I don't think I'm in the mood to watch, and then end up clicking "play next" til it's one in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI have one electric warmer and one tealight warmer *blushes*, but only use the electric one in the bedroom regularly because I like having candles in the living room. I always pick scents based on my mood, and will get into ruts of burning the same candle several days in a row. I am a boring wax addict :D
Gorgeous geraniums!! That color is stunning.
ReplyDelete15 warmers huh? I bet you have a bigger house though. Ours is smallish at 1,500 sq ft. I have one in kitchen, one in living room, one in my bedroom, one in each of girls' (they hardly use theirs) and a plug-in in the guest bathroom. Four go regularly. Clean in bathroom. Same or coordinating scents in kitchen/living room (which really only needs one warmer and not both) and whatever I am in mood for in bedroom (though rarely heavy bakery). I keep thinking about going back down to one in living area. Three warmers is quite enough in the open plan small home. Hope you enjoy your shows! I am starting Twin Peaks.
I have about 20 warmers BUT I only use five at any given moment, sometimes six. The others I keep in a cabinet to use while others are in the freezer. I have one in the kitchen (either hot plate or tea light), one in the dining room (tea light), one in the bathroom (plug in), one in the living room (hot plate or tea light) and sometimes one in the bathroom (usually hot plate or bulb). I too use a "to melt" basket. I actually get excited on Sundays because that's when I get to fill it up with more wax lol! I have gotten through a lot of wax this way and I love it. It's exciting to come home or get up in the morning and rifle through the basket to see what scents I can combine to complement each other while melting. I sometimes get fancy and make my own blends lol. It's simple things like that that non waxy people just can't understand.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers by the way. I have never seen such bright and beautiful geraniums!
@Deb - salt on apples, yes yes yes. salt on raw potatoes, what? Is that good?
ReplyDeleteI often have the different scents going on in adjacent rooms. Most of the time they blend together very well. Sometimes, if I'm at the end of my basket, I'll throw whatever in the warmers and get a SUgar & Spice Mystery Tart experience, often not bad at all. I think it's so good your men pick out scents for you occasionally.
@Kate - you are my TV sister. I've heard the second season is the best out of the three --just in case you need a nudge to start S2 ;) Are you a summer candle melter? I'd love to know your current favorite candle companies.
@Twin Peaks <<<<------ACK --I meant @Julie lol. Is there a new Twin Peaks? I loved the original, I would watch a new one for sure. I love that your girls each have a warmer in their room <3
@Renee - TWENTY warmers! Nice. So no warmer in your bedroom, I see. I'm a foolish one and will have my tealight or electric going on my bedside table next to me while I sleep. I bet your house smells amazing with your custom blends <3
Salt on raw potatoes IS good but I think there was always some 'You'll get worms!' poo-poo about eating those raw potatoes. I haven't done it since I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteI also meant to mention Twin Peaks in my original comment. My sister is THE Twin Peaks master of the universe. She was addicted to that show, and finally made me binge watch is several years ago, with her sitting next to me to make sure I 'got' everything. LOL There IS going to be a new Twin Peaks, picks up 20 years later or whatever. She's thrilled to death about this.

The tealight warmer definitely gets more use in the summer in place of scented candles. I originally bought it more for practicality, because the corner of the counter where I keep it doesn't have a convenient outlet nearby, but I also like the little flickering light :)
ReplyDeleteMost of my candles are B&BW and YC, though Glade has come up with some nice scents, and I'll occasionally splurge on a Pacifica, though they are hit or miss with throw. I still have a couple of lovely L'Artisan (Figuier is a summer favorite), Bendel and Diptyque candles leftover from my days on a grander budget :D
Hello, I watched the first 2 season of Orange is the New Black. I may sound like a prude but I'm over watching those types of shows. Lately I've enjoyed historical/period drama filled Korean shows. Since they have 50+ episodes I feel like I'm doing a service to myself but reading the subtitles LOL.
ReplyDeleteSalt-Watermelon Yes we grow up doing it. Not now but I know a lot of people who still do.
I use 4 warmers daily. I have a walmart light bulb warmer but I never use it. I want to get a scentsy one because that's standard for any waxie. Yes btw that's a lotta warmers lol.
I don't plan at night but in the morning depending on weather. I usually always melt a coffee scent in the room I'm in. Then though out the house I melt bakery first then switch out to a clean/earthy scent. I like to change scent profiles so I don't get candle nose. I found if your melting the same types of scents that happens. At night it's always a blend of any of these scents, lavender, peppermint, vanilla, coconut.
