I committed to an early Thanksgiving dinner with friends here at our house so I'm hoping that, in addition to the cooler weather, will get me out of this funk.
I'm at my threshold with doggie concerns. Just when Fannie is on a nice plateau, Emma (my beagle) is having some abnormalities in her blood work. We are still in the 'figuring it out' phase. Luckily, her demeanor is unchanged.
Saturday we're taking the pooches to Julian, a quaint mountain town about an hour from our house, for a brisk hike and apple picking. Julian is famous for their apple pie and I'm sure a stop for a slice with a steaming cup of hot cocoa will be a part of our day.
You know who I can't stop thinking about? Brittany Maynard. I was touched to my core with her story. I know her story is controversial and I know many don't agree with how she chose to die, but I found her to be so brave and her illness so tragic. There are many who think she is anything but courageous, many who have told me they think her actions were against God's will. Where I can see how their beliefs would lead them to feel the way they do, I just couldn't agree. Brittany was going to die a horrible, horrible death. She wasn't changing her destiny. She gave herself permission to die with dignity. And she did.
It's funny how I tip toed around that last bit in my head. I would dislike it very much if someone who read that disagreed so much that they became angry with me. I've seen many heated debates over assisted suicide and I don't want to go there. If your opinions and beliefs differ from mine, I honor that. If you think Brittany made a mistake, I honor that. I really do. We can disagree, express those feelings and not have to convince anyone to feel the same.

Last Week's Erin Condren:
Perfume of the Day:
I'm a little embarrassed by my perfume choice last week. Let it be known though, Jennifer Lopez makes some seriously pretty smelling perfume. I was a little peeved at the warm weather we were still having so I reached for a summertime favorite. It's a harder to find JLo perfume but it is by far my favorite.

Have you seen the Liberty Mutual car insurance commercial. I loathe it. - Boom - I'll give it to them though, it grabs my attention each time I'm forced to watch it (usually because the remote is too far).
I'm working on my Rosegirls Pie Club post as well as my second custom order post. I've got Rosegirls on my mind and I love it.
What day do you guys usually put up your Christmas tree/holiday decorations? I'm hoping for the traditional day after Thanksgiving, but at this rate, I'm not so sure.
Have a great weekend <3

Which Liberty Mutual commercial? There are a bunch of them, all pretty much annoying. On the other hand, the Geico one with the guy celebrating getting cold cuts is hysterical to me every time I see it.
ReplyDeleteI usually switch to Christmas decorations sometime Thanksgiving weekend. I think I'll go the minimal route again this year. I don't know if Minion will allow a tree this year. He's been pretty rambunctious lately.
Hope both of your doggies have continued happy days! =)

Hi Friend it's been a while since I last commented. Thought I'd throw my 2cents in.
ReplyDeleteI'm taking a break from wax. I burnt myself out. The thrill from ordering stopped being fun. So onto something else. For awhile anyway. Love Thanksgiving can't wait for the obvious reasons food, family and movies on the couch.
Not into Christmas but I have three birthdays that month so it should be fun.
I heard about Brittany's story. I'm very religious and against suicide. But I have to say, I'm truly grateful not to have to walk in her shoes. We all can say what we would do but until we are faced with that challenge speculate is the only thing we can do.
I lost my mother last yr to cancer. She had it and never told anyone. I found out she had it and two weeks later she was gone. It was devastating, she made the decision not to get treatment. I was mad for a while but, I finally understand she was tired on so many levels for so many different reasons. Her fight was gone.
So for all the people like Brittany and my Mommy I hope they find peace on the other side.
I read in an article somewhere that described Brittany's situation perfectly, in my opinion. "She didn't choose to end her life only HOW it was ended.' That line hit me hard as a very close family member committed suicide when I was young and it's a subject I care a lot about. To me, there is a difference between choosing how you die vs choosing to end your life.
ReplyDeleteI do not feel like I can comment on other folks' choices, but I myself could not choose when I die. I am so selfish that I would grab each and every moment to see my children and hubby no matter the pain. Yes, I realize this might be easy to say not having a terminal illness but there are some fast and hard things I do believe in and my day to die is not one of them. (However, as a Christian who fundamentally believes the Word of the Bible- there is no mention of suicide or "self murder" determining one's eternal life- the only thing that determines that is accepting Jesus as your Savior- in fact Hesus to a murder with him to Paradise in their last moments- end preach.)
ReplyDeleteSO! Looking forward to RG posts!!! Hope you get in the holiday mood my dear. Day after Thanksgiving does it for me. The tree usually comes around my birthday <3
NEVER be ashamed of your 'fumes. I like Angel. And Pink Sugar. And Poison. And old granny smelling Shalimar. And armpit, horse fanny, crotchy Muscs Kublai Khan.

DeleteI love what you had to say about Brittany as I feel the exact same way. We have a lot of friends who are religious and neither I nor you would never deny them their right to believe, but for someone with a terminal illness who would have more than likely died anyways, I found it empowering that she stood up and made the decision for herself. In a way, she kicked cancer's ass before it had a chance to kick hers. Her death would have been horrible and painful and hard and awful for her and those around her, so for her to die with the dignity that she did...it is just so touching and heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. <3
ReplyDeleteI hope Emma is going to be okay. You just can't catch a break, my friend. It's understandable why you're not going ga-ga over the holidays, you've been worried about Fannie! Thanksgiving is late this year again, so we might put up our decorations a little bit before Thanksgiving, just to get a full month in. Have fun in Julian, eat some pie for me and stop by Dudley's on the way home!
Glad you liked "Chef," it was one of my unexpected favs this year.
How did you like the Streetman bath products? I need to smell J.Lo's perfume! LOL @ the beyonce image! HAHAHAHH! I love that logic!
Sunnee.. I read your post last night and wanted so badly to respond but I was so dang tired I didn't have it in me.
ReplyDeleteIt is not surprising you haven't been in the holiday spirit. You have other matters weighing on your heart. I'm glad Emma is feeling fine and hopefully this will turn out to be nothing serious!!
I was touched to my core also by Brittany Maynard. She was on my mind and heart everyday since I saw her first video. What a strong woman she was!!! I can not fathom having the strength to go through with such a choice.. as much as I stood behind her decision to go in peace surrounded by her loved ones. I admire her so much. She did so much in her short life and had such a beautiful spirit.
Like Julie said.. never be ashamed of your perfume choices :) I wore Poison daily for a couple years back in the late 80's lol Loved the stuff (gag)
I hope you have a wonderful visit to Julian!!! <3
@Deb - It's the one where the guy is standing in front of the Statue of Liberty talking about accidents and being given a hard time with other insurance companies. He keeps saying "BOOM" and it's pretty obnoxious. The Geico ones are funny though, I agree.
ReplyDeleteOh that Minion--I'm sure he would love a tree this year :)
@Yasmine - I understand about taking a break from wax. I've cooled down quite a bit too. When I see you post in the groups it makes me smile each time. You're a gem in the wax community.
All those birthdays in December--it's a hectic month as it is. Time must start moving pretty quickly for you around Thanksgiving :)
Your mom <3 My heart goes out to you Yasmine. How proud she must've been of you.
I love how rock solid you are in your beliefs but there's not an ounce of pretentiousness or lack of understanding and compassion in expressing yourself.
@Sarah - Hey there! :) That is a great way to look at it and make perfect sense to me. I'm sure with the pain of loosing your family member to suicide, the difference is very clear. <3
@Julie - Like Yasmine, I just love how you are so completely steadfast without being judgmental. I have so much respect for how you express yourself. Your opinions and thoughts are always welcome to my ears.
"crotchy" LOLOLOL.
@Lauren - 100% agree. Brittany made such a difference in her life and I'm so happy she was able to die on her own terms, before she would be incapable of making any decisions because of the cancer.
Emma is going to be fine! Whew. She had an ultrasound yesterday and the results were clean. So happy about that! I'm not sure I'm strong enough to handle another life battle with my pups right now. <3
Dudley's is on our list! I hope is cool and gorgeous.
@Lynda - Emma is great! I feel so much better already. Maybe the holiday decorations will come out after all ;)
Both of the videos grabbed my soul and shook it, in a good although sad way. She imprinted my heart with her message and life.
I loved Poison! If I'm honest, I kinda still do. I wore it when I was in my early 20's and thought I was so sophisticated. They have flankers out of the original out now and I've debated on buying one of them, just for the sentimental aspect. :)
So happy to hear Emma is good :))
ReplyDeleteIt's been so long (like 20 yrs!) since I've smelled Poison. I was in my young 30's, working downtown San Diego (in that beautiful historical building I showed you a while back). Such fond memories from that time in my life. After my Poison phase I was crazy about Versace's Blonde - and I still do love it although it's discontinued.
Where have you seen the flankers of the original Poison?
Lynda I get old poison bottles from consignment stores. The juice is thick and syrupy and smells like grapes. I love it and others probably gag in my wake but shoo! They can gag. I have Poison I need to wear.
DeleteHow could I forget... after Poison was Jean Paul Gaultier ( JPGaultier Eau de Parfum) which is now called Classique.
ReplyDelete@Lynda - I remember the link you sent to that building!
ReplyDeleteThere's pure poison and hypnotic poison. Maybe a couple of others.
I wore JPG Classique too! It still smells very good to me.
Did you like Dune? I've hung on to some very old bottles I've had since the early 90's. They aren't empty but the fragrance is old and not too great. I have a JPG Classique (which I still love also), my Versace Blonde, and Guerlains Champs Elysees.
ReplyDelete@Julie - Your poison is ripe and ready to party. That's so cool that you got it at a consignment shop!
ReplyDelete@Lynda - I haven't ever worn Dune but I've complimented people on it before. You have great taste in perfumes!
@Lauren - I forgot to answer your question about Streetman Body Works. I love it! I can't wait to place an order on black friday. I highly recommend their shaving cream (scrub), lip scrub and body cream. :)
Julie.. you crack me up..
ReplyDelete"others probably gag in my wake" lol
